Shiraz Wine Judging

Wines

So we had 12 customers sit and do wine judging on 6 different Shiraz, from various regions around Australia.

All wines served blind, and used 100 point scoring system.
Results were as follows.
Wine 1-Jeanneret Stand and Deliver 2013 Shiraz
Black spice, star anise, vanilla, cedar over jammy blackfruits. Excellent intensity, good complexity of flavours, and a long finish. Only real drawback was the tertiary notes overwhelmed the vibrancy and put the overall balance out.
Still a great wine-94/100
Wine2 - Little Wine Company Little Gem Shiraz 2015
Lighter style Shiraz, with bright vibrant red cherries and white pepper, very typical of Hunter Valley. The balance of the wine was extraordinary, but showed very simple flavours with a medium length.
Easy drinking, balanced wine-88/100
Wine3-Dutchke St Jakobi 2014
Red and Black fruits, seemless integrated with vanilla, cedar, and rich rounded tannins. Extraordinary length, intensity and complexity, with amazing balance of both flavours and fruit/alcohol vs acid and tannin.
Exceptional Wine-97/100
Wine 4- Brockenchack Jack Harrison 2013
Black fruits, olive tappanade, vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon stick, with black pepper, and mocha notes. A very brooding wine. Intense, complex, with a long finish, a real wow factor. The balance was out a little due to warming alcohol, but still an Outstanding wine.
Brooding and powerful 96/100
Wine 5-Vasse Felix Shiraz 2016
Typical of region, and style. Balanced, linear and elegant. Lacking length of persistence, showing simple forward fruits with some complexity, soft tannins and subdued oak.
Balanced, easy drinking style 87/100
Wine 6-Lethbridge Shiraz 2016
Red, and black fruits, with floral notes (of violets) married to vanilla, cedar, spice and massive chocolate notes, finishing long a smooth. Balance to perfection, showing great intensity, complexity, and excellent complex finish. Sublime wine that evolves with each sip.
Exceptional Wine-97/100
Brockenchack was argued by some to be wine of the night but in the end it came down to Dutchke and Lethbridge with Dutchke pipping out Lethbridge 7 to 5.
Great night had by all
Cheers
