Arete Single Vineyard Shiraz 2008
- Region Barossa Valley, SA
- Type Red
- Size 750ml
- Alcohol 14.5%
Sourced from the Kalleske East block in Greenock this is one spectacular wine. An open and expressive nose displays depth, oak, dark and plummy fruit, and aniseed lift. Creamy and smooth in the mouth with both ground brown spice of the sweet & earthy kind and a nice shake of black pepper. Raspberry coulis sits on top (where else would it sit?). The strucuture is in place to hold this wine in good stead for a decade and the superb length showed no signs of dissipating over two days of tasting. A wine that tastes as good as it looks. -JP

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
says:Good creamy oak over boysenberry and blackberry fruit. It has both a wheaty and peppery aspect too, along with some dark chocolate. It’s creamy and ripe but again has a (pleasant) peppery taste and quite a strong acid backbone. Tannins are grainy and persistent and the shape and length is excellent. It’s just a bit too tangy at the moment, mind you, with a little bitterness creeping up on the finish. Needs more time in bottle to deliver on its promise.
