Capital Wines The Whip Riesling 2009

  • Region Canberra, ACT
  • Type White
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 12%
This wine is perfectly suited to the Queensland climate. Exploding with expressive aromatics. Limes with light honeysuckle flower & orange blossom on the nose. A little passion fruit too, but we're not talking Sauvignon Blanc by any means. Fuller and richer than most Edens, and many Clares. Wet slate and a hint of lemon soap too. Not shy on an entry of tropical and citrus flavours. Citrus dominates the palate, but the tropical fruit notes pop up generously and with good timing. A dry and long finish with a very good balance of tartness and fruit sweetness. This is Riesling though and it is pure and focused, with excellent acidity holding everything together. A ripper of a wine at a great price. -JP

James Halliday, the Wine Companion
 says:

A distinctively floral and fragrant bouquet with hints of passionfruit and spice, then an elegant, wholly satisfying palate with abundant fruit, yet not the least bit heavy.

The Wine Front
 says:

Pretty white flowers (honeysuckle, jasmine etc.), vanilla bean, lime and subtle apple flavours. It’s fluid, clean and flavoursome with no rough edges and plenty of length. Finishes with a lovely minerally tweak and fractionally bitter. Never mind The Whip (or The Stick for that matter), you could throw me into a lake of this stuff. It’s a cracker (ho ho) and an absolute charmer. Not sure how it will age, probably pretty well I’d imagine, but I’d be tucking into it now.
