Chateau Tanunda The Everest Old Bush Vine Grenache 2008

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 15%
This Greenock creation scored the Trophy for the world’s Best Single Estate Red Wine at London’s International Wine and Spirit Competition 2010. The judges said: “Wow! What a seductive nose! The characters are almost decadent in their exotic power. Old vine complexity shines through here. Crushed raspberry, Asian spice, loganberries, sandalwood, lavender, chocolate mints, fruitcake, framboise, ferrous earth, leather, coal, cocoa bean ... the list could be endless. Full bodied, lavishly rich and compelling in the mouth, layers that wash again and again over the palate, changing in ever more complex ways. Well. This is one of the most thrilling wines I have ever tasted.”

James Halliday
 says:

Slightly hazy colour despite two years in French oak; the Everest refers to the Barossa Valley rather than grenache per se; these irrelevancies to one side, this is a top quality grenache that is seldom achieved in the Barossa (more commonly in McLaren Vale) with volumes of red berry fruit and excellent tannin structure.
