Cooper Burns Barossa Valley Shiraz Viognier 2006

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 14.5%
A roaring rendition of Barossa Shiraz Viognier using hand picked grapes, basket presses and open fermenters. Kicking it old school. Give this a good decant and you'll be rewarded with intoxicating and exotic aromas of shrouded dark fruits, chocolate, endice, liquorice and flowers. Blueberry sweet spots are balanced by savoury elements, and the use of seasoned French oak adds to the appeal. It's got years ahead of it, although there is much complexity already on show. -JP

Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
 says:

Deep ruby. Powerfully scented, complex bouquet of cassis, blueberry, violet, baking spices and incense. Fresh and lively, with brisk dark berry flavors and silky texture. Very nicely balanced wine with impressive finishing lift and clarity. This will reward a few years in the cellar but it's already delicious.

Jay Miller, The Wine Advocate
 says:

The enticing bouquet delivers notes of smoke, violet, spice box, game, and blueberry. This is followed by a full-bodied, layered, succulent wine with excellent depth and concentration, ab bit of structure, and a fruit filled finish.

James Halliday, the Wine Companion
 says:

Good concentration, and quite lifted; dark and dense on the palate, with ample chewy tannins.
