Purple Palate

The Red Rose block is a crazy mix of vines situated in the western Barossa area. From these David Franz crafts a "field blend" Rose of great complexity and finesse. Shiraz, Grenache, Frontignac, Mataro are all co-fermented and the use of whole bunch techniques, partial malolactic fermentation and 8 months on lees gives the wine a wonderful textural appeal. It's all about glace cherries, raspberries and tobacco with a revitalising dash of citrus on the back palate and hints of caramel creams inbetween. A pleasantly dry finish invites another glass. -JP
