Purple Palate

The Filsell vineyard was planted in 1920 and has all the hallmarks of a quality old-vine site. The fruit is typically powerful, earthy and deeply colored from the inkier end of the Barossa palate. Classic notes of leather, molasses, nuts, mint and spice are buried deep in the urgent black/red primary fruits. The 2009, a reflection of the vintage, has more delicacy and structure than usual, shaped by firm, svelte tannins and a backbone of acidity that will hold it for a good decade in the cellar. -Ed.
