Henschke Mount Edelstone 2006

  • Region Eden Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 14%
Grown from century-old vines from the Mount Edelstone vineyard, this wine’s history is almost as rich as Hill of Grace. Cyril Henschke bottled the first Mount Edelstone as an individual vineyard wine in 1952. The 1956 vintage won First Prize in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, creating its legend as an illustrous pioneer of Australian red wine. The 2006 is an exceptional example - the nose exhibits aromas both sweet (plum, blackberry) and spicy (sage, pepper). Great intensity of flavour on the palate, leading to a long, long finish. -JL

 says:

Deep purple-crimson; the bouquet is intense and full of spicy black fruits accurately foretelling the power and purity of the palate; this is an outstanding Mount Edelstone, indeed, I cannot remember any better than this; it has the focus and structure to guarantee a 30-year future, if this is what you are after. Alas, it will long outlive me. How good will the ’06 Hill of Grace be?
