Purple Palate

Ancient vines. What a brilliant expression! That is nothing compared to what we see in the glass of this pinnacle offering from Russell Wines. Shiraz vines need to be loved and understood, Shawn Kalleske has done both and in doing so, he has delivered fruit quality that broods in the glass. It is rich and fruit sweet, but layered with fresh and more austere fruit aromas. There is so much intensity that hours in the decanter do not do it justice. This is a wine for the ages and I haven’t tasted it yet... The palate does not disappoint, it is complete and extravagant, there is oak and endless smooth tannins, there is strong natural acidity and wonderful fruit flavours. It is worth every minute that you watch it in the decanter and every cent. -SG
