Sami Odi Ebeneezer Shiraz 2007

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 13.7%
Fraser McKinley's first wine is a testament not only to his great passion and enthusiasm for vineyards but also his skill in creating an organic wine under the guidance of the lunar cycles and utilising as little preservative and winemaking intervention as possible. On top of all this, natural wild ferment allow this Shiraz to really show us what great harmony in the vineyard can show us in the glass. It is black red and thick as you watch it leave the squat old world bottle. On first pass it is all oak, but soon it shows you just how special it really is. There is oak, but it is lovely French oak. There is tannin, but it is smooth and endlessly dry, and there is fruit, lots and lots of fruit. The nose shows fresh berry fruits behind the oak and complexing earthy aromas. The palate is massive, it has everything, with the exception of jammy concentrated fruit. It is more refined than that, more austere and elegant with layers and layers of flavour that warrant your own investigation! -SG
