Wantirna Estate is a tiny production winery in the Yarra Valley with a formidable reputation for making iconic cool-climate wines of international status. The Isabella Chardonnay is a deceptively powerful style, with a distinctly clean palate, gently fragrant oak and spectacular length. The 2009 is very vibrant, textural and long, with savoury lemon naunces, a bold mid-palate and lingering suggestions of toasted pastry. While elegant and expertly oaked, it is remarkably powerful and utterly joyful, expressing its rich, complex profile with singular energy. It will cellar very well.-NT
