Yelland & Papps Greenock Shiraz 2007

  • Region Barossa Valley, SA
  • Type Red
  • Size 750ml
  • Alcohol 14.5%
The fruit for this 2007 shiraz was sourced from the Greenock subregion of the Barossa, then matured in new and old American oak for 20 months. It's soaked it up nicely without becoming too sweet. Dark berrys and plums combine with layers of chocolate and spice to create a fleshy mouth feel that maintains a juicy quality. A hint of beef gravy on the mid-palate offers savoury balance before tannins dry on a soft finish. It's just calling out for a rump steak and some thick cut chips right now and has a long life ahead of it yet-JP

James Halliday, The Wine Companion
 says:

A complex spicy/savoury wine, its black fruits more angular than the ’06, less appealing on entry but, like the Barossa Valley, all the components come together on the lively spicy/savoury finish and aftertaste.

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
 says:

There’s much darkness to be had here - cherry/blackberry, spices, cocoa and new leather - all variously black or very dark brown at least. There’s a good mouthful of dark peppery fruit too offering freshness, vibrancy and length, and while I’ve a minor quibble about the level and nature of the acidity, it proved no deterrent to my thorough enjoyment of the wine. It’s stylish, well balanced, not too heavy and not too sweet. Thumbs up.
