Montepulciano is a grape variety widely planted throughout the central regions of Italy, most notably Abruzzi. Montepulciano ripens late and produces rich full flavours with good acidity levels and soft ripe tannins. It is the most exported grape variety red wine from Italy, and it proving a worthwhile variety to preserve with here in the Adelaide Hills as the wines have great structure and varietal flavours, with a spicy aromatic nose.
