Allan Scott Wines

Image of Allan Scott Wines

Allan Scott is one of the true pioneers of New Zealand's venerated Marlborough region, having planted the original Sauvignon Blanc grapes in 1973 at the Montana winery. Two years later he planted the family's own vineyard to supply the emerging wine industry and, in 1990, he and wife Catherine launched their own label.

Allan Scott Wines has since developed into a Marlborough icon, producing a range of wines especially suited to the region's gravelly soil and sunny climate. Along with the aromatic estate grown and produced portfolio of classic varietal wines, the winery also produces a top-tier single vineyard range of highly-rated prestige wines.

The winery is set amidst picturesque vineyards near Blenheim, in the heart of Marlborough was architecturally designed and built in 1990, from rammed earth and rough sawn timber, lending it a sophisticated yet rustic charm. It's surrounded by mature trees and manicured gardens - an elegant setting for their award-winning Twelve Trees Restaurant, which has become one of the most popular lunchtime haunts in Marlborough.

Allan Scott Wines has evolved into a true family business. Allan's son Josh, who has worked vintages in France and California's Napa Valley, heads up the winemaking team. Josh, who throws himself into adventure sports with gusto, also established the boutique Moa Beer Company.

Elder daughter Victoria manages marketing, while younger daughter Sara, also trained as a winemaker, has followed her father's footsteps to become a viticulturist. - ML
