Dog Ridge
DogRidge is situated in McLaren Flat SA, at the base of the southern Mt Lofty Ranges, overlooking the Mclaren Vale in its beautiful entirety.
DogRidge is operated by the Wright Family who took over custodianship of the vines that originally produced the famous Chateau Reynella fortifieds. Planted in the early 1940’s at the famous Wylpena Vineyard, the vines are well accustomed to long, dry and warm summers, followed by relatively cool winters. Excellent growing conditions.
DogRidge now have 56ha of vineyards producing wines with extreme depth of colour, elegant aromas and rich flavours. They are also a respected grower/producer for several A-list Mclaren Vale wine companies.
Sometimes the name of a winemaking label can be as important to the maker as the wine itself... and rightly so. It's much easier to take pride and care in the making of a wine that you've made your own, inside and out. So it must be said that while the name DogRidge comes from an old ‘vigorous’ grape vine rootstock – it also reflects the family’s love of Curly Coat Retrievers and the position of the Wright Family home on a sandy ridge at McLaren Flat.
DogRidge have an excellent environmental record. Their operations focus on sustainability, biodiversity, recycling and conservation – their Herculean effort has resulted in a negligible Carbon Footprint for the winery. DogRidge also place a simple message on each bottle they sell as their way of spreading the word about reducing CO2 emissions. - Daniel Jess
