Kalleske is a 40ha family owned vineyard at Greenock in the balmy Barossa Valley. Their grape vines vary in age from five to 100 years old, with an average age of 50 years.

Known as vieilles vignes in France, old vines produce very low crops of grapes. These grapes are often richer, more completely flavoured and contain higher amounts of natural aromatic compounds per litre of juice. These types of wines are therefore highly regarded and … well … delicious!

The Kalleske family has been farming and growing grapes since the 1800’s and are one of the region’s leading grape-growing families – consistently growing top quality grapes.

The Kalleske's believe they are only caretakers of the land and therefore are active practitioners of sustainable farming. They use no chemical fertilisers or pesticides and parts of the vineyard are now certified organic.

Lacking a complete winery shed, during six generations of grape growing the Kalleske family sold its entire harvest to larger winemakers in the region. In 2002, seventh-generation Troy Kalleske with his brother Tony, established a small winery on the estate and created the Kalleske label. The winery as we know it today uses minimalist techniques and features open fermenters and a very beautiful basket press.

Since the first vintage was released in 2004, Kalleske has rapidly gained a reputation for creating top quality hand crafted wines. Their range is a diverse mix that captures the essence of the vineyards and showcases their superbly complex grapes.

Kalleske is committed to continue making genuine estate grown wines of individuality. - Daniel Jess
