Kilikanoon Wines
Kilikanoon is a boutique Australian winery with a big international reputation.
Based in Penwortham SA, part of the Clare Valley region, Kilikanoon owns or controls over 500ha of prime location vineyards within South Australian borders. These vineyards were carefully selected for their respective region and terroir characteristics, and the resultant wines reflect this individuality.
In 1997, winemaker Kevin Mitchell purchased the Kilikanoon property in the hope of creating his own brand. He comes from a long tradition of grape growing in the Clare Valley. Kevin’s love of true terroir was born out of years playing in and around vineyards, eventually working alongside his dad as a young adult.
Kevin is highly trained in both the scientific and artistic sides of winemaking – his passion and talent helping to produce national and international award winning wines with strong regional and varietal definition.
From the 2000 dozen bottles filled by the 1997 vintage, Kilikanoon has since increased production to over 40,000 dozen, without changing or neglecting their philosophy to make hand crafted wine. Essentially, it meant longer hours for the family to produce the same high-quality wine we've always loved to sip.
Kilikanoon strives to make the best wines from the best grapes no matter where they're harvested – this credo led Kevin to make wine in the Loire and Rhone Valleys under the Kilikanoon label. He then purchased Barossa Valley’s iconic Seppeltsfield winery (established in 1851) - one of Australia’s most revered and historic wineries. - Daniel Jess
