Moores Hill
Moores Hill Estate is a small boutique family operated winery on 4.9ha of northeast facing hillside in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley, a short hike from the town of Exeter.
The estate was established in 1997 on a site 120m above sea level and now it produces wines that reflect the vineyard's unique mesoclimate. Moores Hill vineyards rest in one of the coolest sites in the West Tamar – and let me tell you, it gets cold!
By necessity Moores Hill Estate practices small batch winemaking. This helps maximise the quality and complexity of their wines.
The winery produces riesling, both an oaked and unoaked chardonnay, rose, pinot noir, cabernet merlot and a divine late harvest riesling called 'CGR'. This refers to the 100g residual sugar left in the wine after fermentation - that is some serious sweetness from one of Tasmania's best kept secrets. Interesting, each block of vines has its own specific microclimate that helps produce these clever wines.
Moores Hill Estate has a 4 star rating in Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion and their 2009 riesling was awarded a mammoth 95 points.
The aim of Moores Hill Estate is to create wines of distinction and quality while reflecting the unique terroir of their sites. By making no compromise on quality, both in the vineyard and in winemaking, I believe that Moores Hill will continue to do just that.
