Wolf Blass
Leading winemaker at Wolf Blass since 1988, Chris Hatcher is the man behind the wine, behind the label behind "The Man". Confused? Don't be, it's all very simple.
Born in 1934 in Germany, Wolfgang Franz Otto Blass became a sparkling winemaker for Kaiser Stuhl in Australia in 1961. Like many with a zeal for the grape, Wolf started his own small vineyard five years later. Within a handful of years, after the birth of three different labels (the Yellow, Grey and Black labels) and after winning three prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophies for hs wines, Wolf Blass wines grew further and the Gold Label was released. Twelve years of consistent winemaking pass, allowing the vineyards to grow yet again. In 1998, the outstanding top-level Platinum label Shiraz was promptly awarded 93 points by esteemed wine writer Robert Parker.
This year, the 10th consecutive vintage of Wolf Blass Platinum Label Shiraz was released - the 2007 vintage. This is a truly opulent wine hand-crafted from well treated vines.
Wolf Blass AM once said that "the essence of Wolf Blass wines is exemplified through the passion of its brand custodians, past and present, their historic events and ambitions for the future". A sensible, honest and hard-working man.
"The sum of all parts should still be a better result than the quality of each individual part, otherwise why blend at all" - Chris Hatcher, Chief Winemaker. - Daniel Jess
